On Wednesday, 20 March 2019 Booja-Booja was delighted to be awarded the incredibly prestigious FAIR trophy at the FreeFrom Food Awards 2019 in London, when our brand new, organic, dairy free, gluten & soya free chocolate truffle selection box, The Wonderbox, scooped the top award for Best Free From Food. The Wonderbox initially won gold in the Free From Gifts category before going on to be crowned overall winner. Our brand new chocolate truffle flavour Honeycomb Caramel also won gold in Confectionery & Chocolate and our Dairy Free Hazelnut Chocolate Truffle ice cream scooped a silver award in the Milk Alternative category.
The Wonderbox was highlighted by judges considering the Free From Gifts category as being an “amazing selection of unusual and distinctive flavoured truffles – fabulous quality. Toffee strudel, Espresso and Rhubarb to die for. Lovely creamy texture – I WANT to be given this Wonderbox…..'” The Wonderbox is an exciting taste adventure, containing eight different truffle varieties, including two brand new chilled truffle flavours, Toffee Strudel and Honeycomb Caramel. It can be found in the chiller section in all good local independent health stores and makes for an unusual and surprising chocolate box treat.
The FAIR trophy, a sculpted torso of a Greek god, is fondly known as ‘Marble Mo’ by organiser Michelle Berriedale-Johnson and was given to her by a friend. It has been awarded to the winner of Best Free From Food since the very first ceremony in 2008, at which Booja-Booja won gold for Hunky Punky Chocolate Dairy Free Ice Cream.
The all-new Honeycomb Caramel Chocolate truffles were developed by company founder, Colin Mace last summer, and really took judges by surprise. These little mouthfuls of chocolate honeycomb magic were hailed by judges as having a ‘’Nice shape and presentation; very creamy truffle but with the subtle crunch of the honeycomb – how did they do that?… Excellent flavour – would outshine any ‘real cream’ truffle.” To launch the flavour, we took our vegan truffles on the road as part of Organic September, in a nation-wide ‘Truffles on Tour’ event hosted by 60 different independent health food shops.
As well as melt-in-your-mouth chocolate truffles Booja-Booja also makes deliciously creamy dairy free ice creams. There are six gorgeous varieties to choose from and our Hazelnut Chocolate Truffle flavour scooped an impressive Silver in the Milk Alternatives category. The judges said the pot was ‘Very pretty. Super clean ingredients, delicious flavour – really luxurious, great balance of flavours – I could eat a truckload!’
