We’re chuffed to bits that Booja-Booja has been awarded two Great Taste awards by judges at the Guild of Fine Food for our luscious organic Caramel Pecan Praline Dairy Free Ice Cream and for our mouth-watering Almond Salted Caramel Organic Dairy Free Chocolate Truffles. Great Taste Awards are the world’s most coveted food awards which celebrate the absolute very best in food and drink.
Great Taste Awards not only categorically confirm the deliciousness of your product but for Booja-Booja they also confirm that free from foods can compete extremely successfully on taste and flavour with the best of the best. The coveted Great Taste black logo stands out on the shelves, bringing winning products to the attention of all shoppers, and hopefully tempting them to give us a try.
Commenting on Caramel Pecan Praline, the judges said: “Good, clear visible swirl to this lovely grown-up ice cream. The base is suitably luxurious, creamy and well balanced with the earthy, almost savoury nut element. The sweetness from the caramel is well balanced and integrated.” Booja-Booja Almond Salted Caramel Chocolate Truffles were noted as having a “wonderful contrast of textures between the outer enrobing and the soft ganache … a pleasing looking product of great portion size and fabulous texture that allows for a crunch and softness at the same time, rounded off with a great salty flavour.”
Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is vinegar, granola, bacon or cheese being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of an award.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
There were 12,634 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, just over 9,000 received awards. The panel of judges this year included: MasterChef 2018 champion, Kenny Tutt, chef and food writer, Elly Curshen, eco chef and food writer, Tom Hunt, author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, baker Tom Herbert, author and blogger, Izy Hossack, and baker and recipe writer, Martha Collison, as well as food buyers from Harrods, Selfridges and Sourced Market. These esteemed palates have together tasted and re-judged the winners to agree on the Golden Fork Trophy winners and the Great Taste 2018 Supreme Champion to be announced in September.
