Cholesterol & Refined Sugar… the facts

Booja Blog|Cholesterol & Refined Sugar...The Facts|sunrise in nature

As we say in our dairy free blog post, we’re extremely proud of our Free From qualities. You may also be aware, we carried the wording ‘cholesterol free’ on our chocolate and dairy free luxury ice cream alternative packaging in the past and began removing this wording in September 2011.

However all of our products are cholesterol free as they contain no animal products as only animal products contain cholesterol. However Cholesterol Free is not a supported health claim and therefore may not be printed on packaging. Moreover the key issue is not whether the product contains cholesterol but on whether a product raises or lowers the cholesterol level in the human body. The links between dairy and raising cholesterol levels are very well documented.

We always endeavour to be as honest and transparent as possible, and use approved wording and have therefore removed all reference to cholesterol on our packaging.

There has been no change to our products; they are still dairy free, contain the same ingredients and contain no cholesterol.

  2. Minerva

Hi!, I would like to know if you use cashew butter or just raw cashew nuts. Thank you

  3. Kemi

Hi! I was wondering, do you plan to do a strawberry flavour any time soon? I love your ice cream and love that it’s transparent in terms of ingredients and nutrition. Just wish there was a fruity option- strawberries are best but any berry would do!

    • louise t

Hi Kemi Thanks for getting in touch and for your feedback. We can’t say too much yet but do keep your eyes peeled over the coming months!

  4. Nicola

Trying to work out calorie content of one almond salted caramel truffle. What does each weigh? Thanks.

  5. Sarah

Hello , trying to work out the calories of hunky punky chocolate ice cream But am a bit stumped with the conversion from ml to grams. do you know how much a 500 ml pot of the ice cream weighs in grams please ? I’ll be able to work it out from that!

    • louise t

Hi Sarah There are 150kcal per 100ml of Hunky Punky Chocolate Ice Cream. Does that help or do you still need to know the conversion from ml to grams?

  6. Amy Mattison

I am trying to have less refined sugar in my diet. I don’t eat any in the day time but I have always been an addict for a chocolate bar or ice cream after dinner. I have now switched to 85% or more chocolate in the evenings but looking for a natural no bad sugar ice cream option. I just wanted to confirm that yours is one of these? There are so many brands they claim to be healthy it’s confusing. Like oppo ice cream for instance which is natural ingredients like stevia used and is low in calories. Thanks.

    • louise t

Hi Amy Our dairy free ice creams are free from refined sugars. They are sweetened with agave syrup or coconut syrup. Hope that helps.

  7. Sam

Can u make the coffee chocs individual please X

    • louise c

Hi Sam, at the moment we don’t have any plans to sell any of our truffles individually, but we hope you’ll continue to enjoy our boxes of Around Midnight Espresso Truffles. Our Hazelnut, Fine de Champagne and Almond Salted Caramel Truffles are all available in ‘Two Truffle Packs’ if you’d like to give those a try?!

  8. christine

  9. christine

could you tell me if these chocolates contain the emulsifier “soya lecithin” if not are they Emulsifier free?

    • louise c

Hi Christine, sorry about the delay replying to you. NO, none of our products contain soya lecithin or any other emulsifier.

  10. Rosie

Hi I was wondering the weight of the hunky punky icecream tub in grams so when I get a portion I know how much to take. I can’t work out how to have a 100ml portion so if you could let me know the tub weight or the calories for 100g that’d be great- thankyou.

    • louise c

Hi Rosie, thanks for getting in touch. A 500ml tub of our Hunky Punky Chocolate Ice Cream weighs approx 362g. We hope this is useful. Best wishes.

  12. Ellouise

Dear Louise, Hope you are well. Can you guys make a selection of non alchoholic (even flavor) truffle box and start export to Dubai? Thanks for the Ice Creams they are delicious.

    • louise c

Hi Ellouise, we make two truffle selections that don’t include any alcohol; in our Chilled Truffles range our Truffle Selection No2 contains Hazelnut, Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool and Almond & Sea Salt Caramel. In our Special Edition Gift Collection our Truffles Selection No2 contains those flavours plus Stem Ginger truffles. As for exporting, I’m afraid we don’t currently work with an exporter to Dubai. This is something that may change in the future but we have no immediate plans in that direction, sorry. We’re so glad you like the ice creams! Thanks for making contact and we hope you continue to enjoy your Booja-Booja moments.

  13. Caitlin

Hi! Does the weight you mentioned for 500ml of hunky punky choc. also refer to the other ice-creams eg the caramel praline? Thank you!

    • louise c

Hi Caitlin, the weights vary slightly from flavour to flavour. Here’s a list of them all. I hope this helps. Best wishes, Louise
      Hunky Punky Chocolate 500ml = 362g
      Keep Smiling Vanilla M’Gorilla 500ml = 384g
      Caramel Pecan Praline 500ml = 379g
      Raspberry Ripple 500ml = 396g
      Hazelnut Chocolate Truffle 500ml = 401g
      Chocolate Salted Caramel 500ml = 387g

  14. Pauline

Hi could you please tell me the exact percentage of sugar in your hazelnut truffles & also the salted caramel truffles many thanks

    • louise c

Hi Pauline, we’re sorry it’s taken us so long to get back to you, we’ve been experiencing a lot of technical problems with our website. To answer your question, the sugar content of our Hazelnut Chocolate Truffles is 2.9g per truffle. This is approximately 25%. We don’t add sugar to this recipe, all of the sugars come from the chocolate and the natural sugars from the hazelnuts.
Our Almond & Sea Salt Caramel Truffles contain 3.4g per truffle (approx 29%) and of that 2.6% is added sugar in the caramel, the rest comes from the chocolate and natural sugars in the almonds. We hope this helps. Apologies again for the delay and best wishes.

    Hi Julie
Sorry we’ve not replied to your comment sooner, we’ve been having some problems with our website. Unfortunately our ice cream tubs are not currently widely recyclable. They are recycled in some areas but it depends on your local council’s policies. Like coffee cups they are coated to make it possible for them to hold liquid without leaking. We are very aware that this situation is not ideal and please be assured that we are working on finding a better solution, but this is the situation as it stands.
